The Truth Beauty Company
Having an eco-friendly lifestyle is something that has been important to me for a long time. In the past few years, I’ve started buying my food in bulk using reusable containers, making my own cleaning products, and trying to shop primarily second-hand.
After struggling with my skin for a long time (read this post), I finally decided to cut out all the nasty chemicals I was putting on my body. I mean, why care about chemicals in your food if you’re not going to worry about what you’re putting on your skin?
I had completely given up wearing make-up since anything I used caused irritation, which proved exceptionally difficult as a part-time model. Thankfully my friend Brittany from Inspirit Beauty introduced me to The Truth Beauty Company and I was amazed by their selection of green beauty products.
The Truth Beauty Company curates natural and organic skincare, hair care, and cosmetic brands, ‘creating awareness of harmful chemicals both for the environment and on our bodies.’ They also support small local brands and prioritize Canadian-made products. Jennifer, the founder of The Truth Beauty Company, and her team offer a wealth of knowledge about their products. There are two beautiful stores, located in Guelph and Waterloo, Ontario, however you can also shop online if you don’t live in the area. Use the code LUNAR15 for 15% off your order!
During my first visit to The Truth Beauty Company, Jennifer and Brittany helped me assemble a basic make-up kit that would be easy to apply and convenient to pack when I travel. Here is what I bought:
Although I still don’t wear make-up very often, I was really happy with everything I bought, especially the mascara and the face mist which I use every morning and evening at the end of my skincare routine. Last month I visited Jennifer and The Truth Beauty Company to see what new goodies they had in store; check out what I found!
The mask by Indie Lee has fruit acids which gently exfoliate while the extracts (like chamomile and seaweed) help nourish your skin. My sensitive skin is picky about masks, but this one was lovely. I’m also obsessed with the incense bundle by Woodlot and have been using it every morning before my yoga practice. The eye cream by Cocoon Apothecary feels and smells wonderful, but it’s too soon to tell if it’s helping with my dark under-eye circles. More on that later!
I also picked up the new Truth Beauty Box which was packed with a variety of awesome green beauty items. I think my favourite thing about this box was learning about brands I wasn’t familiar with, which led me explore their other products. Here’s what was inside:
A charcoal-infused, plant-based sponge which treats your skin as you cleanse. You can use it with just water or your favourite cleanser!
This comes in a convenient travel-size container and is free from SLS (which I’m allergic to).
Made with coconut oil, a touch of coconut palm sugar, and pink Himalayan salt. A great snack for on-the-go!
Refresh, tone, and hydrate the skin while soothing redness and inflammation. Made with magnesium, zinc, silver, and copper for a glowing complexion.
Pamper yourself with this yummy mask made with botanical extracts.
I’m obsessed with the design of this lip balm; it looks super cute on my bedside table! The ‘exotic berry’ flavour is made with coconut and sweet almond oils to nourish as well as Vitamin E to provide essential antioxidants.
