Eat My Trip - Barcelona

Recently I've started to browse Instagram for restaurants before I visit a new city. In most cases, cool restaurants and cafes have a solid social media presence in order to appeal to their target market (in this case, yours truly). During my search I stumbled upon Eat My Trip, and was immediately excited by the pictures on their account. I mean, it's pretty hard not to drool over beautifully presented smoothie bowls and cakes right?! Not to mention they only use organic and ecological ingredients, and always have vegan/gluten-free options on their menu.

Eat My Trip is owned and operated by Genia Sukhacheva, who creates menu items that are inspired by flavours she loves from around the world. Opening a cafe was Genia's dream, and she has worked hard to overcome countless obstacles to make that dream a reality. As an aspiring female business owner myself, Genia's courage and perseverance are truly incredible. If you want to read more about her story, check out this Instagram post.

My friend Jess and I ate brunch twice at Eat My Trip, and were absolutely in love with everything about this place. The decor is predominately blue tones, with splashes of colour and large murals on the walls. One of the first things to catch your eye is the awesome neon sign on the back wall which says, 'For the Sake of Cake'. I also highly recommend you visit the washrooms while you're there; I won't give it away, but turn on the lights and you won't be disappointed.

On the first day, I tried the Normandic Croissant: Scrambled eggs with herbs on tops of a butter croissant, smoked salmon, roasted tomatoes, truffle sauce, caviar, and greens. The flavours were amazing, and it wasn't too heavy which is always a plus. Jess tried the Guacamole Toast (with an added poached egg): Mashed avocado on sourdough bread with sundried and roasted tomatoes, arugula, seeds, nuts, and balsamic. We both had homemade lemonades to drink: I had Hibiscus and Jess tried the Lemon & Cucumber.

I want it all. Lo quiero todo.

On day two, we went all out.

Beet Latte: This is typically made with their speciality coffee by SlowMov, but I don't drink coffee so I had mine with just oat milk. I had never tried a latte made with beet juice before, and was pleasantly surprised. The skull cup it came in was also amazing, and the bright pink colour is definitely picture-worthy.

Fins Forest Smoothie: A 'very berry' mix with almond milk. It comes topped with chia seeds, coconut, and a raspberry on top. Super tasty and filling.

BBQ Waffles: Okay, I'll admit I was pretty skeptical about this one; we saw it on the menu during our first visit and weren't convinced, but on our second visit Genia recommended we try it. Who knew smoked crispy waffles with 2 fried eggs, crispy bacon, caramelized onions, mushrooms, tomatoes, and honey bbq sauce would taste so good?! We absolutely loved how the flavours all mixed together, and would definitely recommend it. It is pretty big though, so one order to share was enough for us!

Dragon Fruit Smoothie Bowl: Tropical and vibrant purple dragonfruit bowl with coconut milk and superfoods. The presentation of this one was so pretty I almost didn't want to eat it...but I'm glad I did because it was marvellous. Eat My Trip has a lot of smoothie bowl options, and one of these would be enough if you were looking for a smaller breakfast.

And then there was cake.

Even though it was only 11:00 am, we decided we couldn't leave without trying a piece of cake. I was super excited because I'm lactose intolerant, and they had a dairy-free carrot cake...with inches of icing! The cake was unbelievably moist, and we somehow managed to eat the entire piece even though we were quite full.

So, if you are in Barcelona, don't miss breakfast/brunch at Eat My Trip; there is something delicious for everyone!
